Training Day Information - attend both days for full coverage

and receive complimentary handouts below.

Day One -  2861 - New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills Level 1

This is a new New Zealand Certificate that complements NCEA and as students work through the NZ qualification additional credits can be gained

towards NCEA Level 2 in particular.  The target group is a student who is struggling to achieve NCEA.  The student may have become disengaged with

their learning programme, display low literacy/numeracy levels and generally under achieving.  Sometimes they just need a different approach and one

that can be tailored to their individual needs.

The focus for this new certificate is to provide opportunities to develop competencies that provide life-long learning skills and prepare young people for

the world of work, or further study.  We have many success stories around the country to show that this alternative approach results in successful

outcomes. SPEC has an NZQA approved programme for the New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills Level 1.

The day will outline the NZ Certificate in Foundation Skills Level 1, and explore the requirements and pathways.  The day will also cover the SPEC

programme, and how  the components match the requirements for the new certificate.  There will be a ‘hands on’ session with the SPEC resources, a

session on goal setting, planning and self reflection, and how to build up a portfolio.  We will also cover the SPEC quality assurance procedures.

Level 2 unit standards can be used in the Foundation programme and used towards either or both NCEA Level 1 and Level 2.

This is ‘Personalised’ learning at its’ best.  An exciting opportunity to provide all students with a relevant and meaningful pathway, to ensure a successful

outcome.  Click on the NZQA link on the Home page and Programme Information to find out more.

Day Two -  2853 - New Zealand Certificate in Skills for Living, for Supported Learners, with an optional Strand for

Skills for Working.

This is a new New Zealand Certificate that has been specifically designed for students “who display learning disabilities to include those with

intellectual disabilities.” A Statement taken from the qualification.

From 2019, this will be the only New Zealand certificate for this target audience. Like 2861 above, the focus in on developing competencies, with support.

Both the new NZ certificate and the NZQA approved SPEC programme provide an exciting opportunity for personalised learning, ensure that each

individual has their learning needs met, by agreeing an individual programme. However that individual programme leads to a common overall

achievement of gaining the New Zealand Certificate in Skills for Living.

The day will outline the new  NZ Certificate in Skills for Living, exploring the requirements and pathways.  The day will also cover the approved

SPEC programme, the requirements for the programme and how they match the requirements for the new certificate.  There will be a ‘hands on’ session

with the SPEC resources, a session on goal setting, planning and self reflection and how to build up a portfolio.

We will also cover the SPEC quality assurance procedures.
