Moderation
Zoom meetings will be arranged in July and November each year.
Step 1
Once a student finishes a module, it’s a great time to carry out internal moderation. Make sure this is done in plenty of time before the cut-off date, so everything runs smoothly.
Step 2
Your internal check should confirm that all module components have been completed and that the student has demonstrated the appropriate outcomes—either the Graduate Profile Outcomes for their qualification or the key competencies for other programmes.
Step 3
Click on the correct form (left) and follow the instructions.
Please ensure you type the student's name correctly. This must be their official name.
Completed forms must be emailed back by the 'cut-off date' to carolyn@spec.org.nz
Step 4
External moderation takes place via Zoom. Each school will be assigned a meeting day and time, during which they are invited to showcase their students’ work. This can take any format—including students discussing their learning—and should run for approximately 15 minutes per school. Schools are warmly encouraged to attend even if they don't have work to moderate, as the sessions offer valuable professional development and a chance to share ideas and best practice.
Step 5
Schools attending the moderation meeting take on the role of external moderators. These sessions help maintain consistency across the country, as moderators engage in questioning, discussion, and constructive feedback. Certificates are awarded following a successful Zoom presentation. While a postage fee applies, the certificates themselves are proudly gifted by SPEC.
